How to choose matcha powder
Grade, origin, color, and freshness
Ceremonial grade matcha powder from a sixth-generation farm in Uji, Kyoto. First harvest, shade-grown, stone-ground, and exclusive to Era.
Ceremonial or culinary?
Ceremonial grade is made from the youngest leaves of the first harvest. It's smooth and naturally sweet, made to drink on its own or in a latte. Culinary grade comes from later harvests, tastes more bitter, and is meant for baking and cooking.
Where it's from matters
Uji, just south of Kyoto, is where Japanese matcha was perfected, and its name is still the benchmark for quality. Shading the plants before harvest is what gives the leaves their deep green color and natural sweetness.
Color and taste
Good matcha powder is a vibrant green and tastes sweet and savory, with no bitterness. A dull, yellowish green usually means an older or lower grade.
Freshness
Light, air, and heat dull matcha's color and flavor. Ours is flown to the UAE and kept refrigerated from stone-grinding until it's sent to you. Keep it sealed in the fridge once it arrives.

Frequently asked questions
Sizes, storage, caffeine, and delivery
Which size should I choose?
The 30g tin makes 10 to 15 cups, a good start. The 100g tin makes 33 to 50 cups, for daily drinkers. You can also subscribe so a fresh tin arrives on your schedule.
How much matcha powder per cup?
2 to 3g for a bowl of traditional matcha or a matcha latte.
How should I store matcha?
Sealed, in the fridge. Let a cold tin come to room temperature before opening so moisture doesn't form inside.
Is anything added?
No. It's single-origin, stone-ground green tea with no additives or blends.
How much caffeine is in matcha?
A standard serving has roughly the caffeine of a single espresso, and it naturally contains L-theanine, an amino acid found in tea.
Do you deliver across the UAE?
